How to Properly Lubricate Planetary Gear Reducers

There are 3 main ways to lubricate a planetary gearbox: they are grease lubrication, oil splash, and forced oil.

1. Grease Lubrication

This type of lubricant is good for low-speed planetary gearbox reducers, but the cooling is not as good as oil splash, one point need to know that too little grease lubrication prevents an appropriate lubrication layer from developing, but too much grease lubrication, particularly grease, causes viscous drag and results in power loss.

2. Oil Splash Lubrication

You can see it in helical, spur, and bevel gearboxes, although it might also be used for planetary gearboxes. This procedure is also known as an oil bath since it employs an oil-filled (or partially-filled) reservoir. 

3. Forced Oil Lubrication

It is suitable for high-speed applications and comprises oil mist, oil spray, and oil drop. Oil is atomized in the oil mist process, saturating all regions of the gears and other internal components. 

How to Prevent Lubrication( Oil )Leakage in Planetary Gearboxes?

1.  Too much oil When assembling, one point needs to be noted, it is not the more oil added, the better.  excessive addition of gear lubricating oil, causes oil to leak from the gearbox connections. So please add the specified amount of gear oil for planetary gearboxes according to the model's requirements.

2. Inspecting Oil Seal Leakage: If the sealing gasket is aging or severely worn, or if it lacks a gasket or is not tightened, the sealing effect will deteriorate, leading to oil leakage. So please add or replace the sealing gasket and tighten the bolts at regular times.

3. Rough Processing Precision: Oil also will leak if the seal at the cover end and bearing end cover hole is damaged. Please clean and repair the equipment connections and add sealing gaskets.
